Can You Be an Artist and Not Hustle?

Hello Everyone,

So, as stated in the last article, I had a conversation with a former student about art, fashion, and hustle. She shared with me that she enrolled back in school and majored in fashion design so she can really “hustle” in fashion. When I let her know that a lot of creative people do not like the hustle, she was shocked. She was used to dealing with business and taxes, so getting in the creative industry was something she wanted to do to really put herself out there. As she was discussing this, it makes me wonder, can you be an artist and not hustle?

I have been thinking about this conversation for quite some time now, and I still don’t know the answer to it. I will say that the internet and social media have made it easier to put your works out there. Because of the world wide web and social media, I’m able to show you all my works of art. One thing about being active on social media is that you have to keep it up (I’m still working on this). Although I would love to do everything exclusively online, with some things, I know I may have to go out and meet people. That makes me uncomfortable, but as the saying goes, “In order to be the best, you have to push yourself out of your comfort zone.”

Getting out of my comfort zone, as well as showcasing my artwork on social media is what I will be working on. So, I guess you can somewhat be an artist and not hustle, depending on the type of art you are creating. Well, back to creating.

Happy 3rd Day of the Year 2020!
